Day 75 of 110: Mystery Solved

A few days ago I wrote about our chapter having had three women elected to the national DAR office of Vice President General by 1930, but only two were identified. The mystery is solved; the third Daughter is confirmed. She was Mrs. W. O. (Mary) Spencer.

I'd suspected it may have been Mrs. Spencer, but since she hadn't been regent of our chapter before 1930, I thought she may have been elected NSDAR Vice President General after 1930. But earlier today, I was going through some more papers and found some that were recently returned to our chapter that had not been inventoried for our storage. Among the records I found the speech given at a NC DAR State Conference seeking the NC Daughters' endorsement of Mrs. Spencer for Vice President General.

At the top of the page is a hand written note, "Nominating speech in Charlotte March 1926 delivered by Mrs. W. L. Reed."
