Whirlwind Summer

So....my last post was in early summer. And what a whirlwind of a summer it has been. Who said DAR takes a break during the summer. We may not have regular chapter meetings, but we have been busy.

Early in June, we had our District Meeting - chapters in our area meeting to share ideas and celebrate achievements. It was a wonderful meeting - as it always is! Mid June brought Flag Day - another outstanding opportunity to share our nation's heritage and richly unique history.

In late June, I had the pleasure of attending Continental Congress with other NC Daughters. This is always an outstanding trip! One of the most amazing nights is always National Defense Night and this year it was no different. We had the pleasure of hearing from  Admiral Michelle Howard (more on that at a later date!)

July of course began with 4th of July celebrations and a Naturalization Ceremony at Old Salem. And planning for fall events such as Constitution Week commenced in July too! (another teaser...more on that later too!)

August led to more opportunities for NC Daughters to learn about DAR and our goals and objectives with the Fall Forums in Wilmington, Durham and Charlotte. As Daughters often say (and in this case it was definitely true!), "A wonderful time was had by all!"

And the cherry on top - at least for me - was finally getting my mom's application papers approved for her to officially be a member of the DAR too (last teaser...you'll definitely see more on this in a later post!)

Today is Labor Day - the end of a whirlwind summer of activities. I'd hate to know what DAR summers are like if we didn't take a break in the summer! LOL
